A field of 48 new cars will contest the Continental Tyres Irish Car of the Year 2020. Now in its 41st year, the Continental Tyres Irish Car of the Year Awards highlight for Irish motorists the best cars that have been launched in the country taking account of the particular requirements of the Irish market.
All contenders were available at Mondello Park for the annual refresher days where jury members were offered a chance to re-test drive the individual models.
A jury of 34 of Ireland’s most experienced motoring journalists form the panel of eligible voters. Most jury members will have driven the different models over the last twelve months and the refresher days are just that; a chance to reacquaint themselves with the contenders ahead of making a final decision on the eventual winner.
From here the 48 contestants will be divided into a number of categories that represent where they fit in a diverse Irish motoring market.
Following a first vote by the eligible jury members, category winner will be announced and they will go forward for the coveted title that will be revealed at a gala event in The Westin Hotel, Dublin, on Thursday November 7th.
There were a number of striking facets in terms of the different categories at Mondello Park, especially the number of electric vehicles mirroring the shift towards EVs and the numbers that have recently entered the Irish market this year.
Add some quality vehicles at the premium end, an exciting number of sports models and a host of new SUVs to the interesting range of compact family cars and there’s a big job ahead for the journalists with the deciding votes.
We have been to Mondello Park to cast an eye over the array of cars on offer. Here’s just a selection of some of the models that will contest this year’s Continental Tyres Irish Car of the Year 2020 award title.
