Lusk Service Station in Dublin has been rated as the best motorway service station in Ireland according to an analysis carried out by insurance provider Chill Insurance.
The survey ranked the service stations based on the number of catering options available, Trip Advisor reviews, number of different car charging ports, number of main amenities, well managed score, quick to use rating and average monthly search volume in Ireland for each service station to understand demand.
Lusk Service Station was rated Ireland’s best motorway service station thanks to its wide range of facilities and number of food options. Amenities include charging points for ESB ecars, showers, an indoor and outdoor play area, a range of catering options, and tourist and motorway information points.
The popular Junction 14 Mayfield, Texaco, County Kildare service station on the M7 was rated second best motorway service station in the country. It offers the widest choice of eateries, with no fewer than ten outlets and was also noted for its free wi-fi, e-charging facilities and ATM.
Opened in 2019, Athlone Service Station on the M6 near Moate, County Westmeath has quickly become popular with travellers, taking third place on the Chill Insurance analysis. Notably it caters very well for EV drivers with both ESB Cars and IONITY charging facilities on site, while a choice of six different catering options offers a broad choice for hungry motorists.
Applegreen Castlebellingham, Dundalk, County Louth is the most googled service station in the country. The busy M1 location was ranked as the cleanest service station of those surveyed, and was also noteworthy for having a Tesla supercharger, showers, and child friendly amenities including indoor and outdoor play areas and picnic tables.
Fifth place in the survey went to Gorey Services, Gorey, County Wexford. It was noted for its cleanliness, ESB ecars and IONITY charging points, showers, and – a boon for commercial vehicle drivers in these times – a HGV Covid-19 test centre.
Other top ten ranking service stations included Portlaoise Plaza, County Laois; Kinnegad Plaza, County Westmeath; Barack Obama Plaza, County Tipperary; Birdhill Services (M7), County Tipperary; and Galway Plaza, County Galway.
