Extra specification at no extra price

The Volvo S40 and V50 ranges have proved to be very popular in Ireland, offering a combination of well sized and well specified premium cars at a value for money price. That value has just got better with new and improved standard trim and engines. Plus for Model Year 11 the luxurious SE Lux specification has been reduced in price by at least €1,215*, to the same price as the SE specification from the last model year.

The new Model Year S40 & V50 models have improved standard specification with the Dashboard Information Centre now standard, as are floor mats and the passenger airbag cutoff switch. More substantially the SE Lux specification is now priced at the same price as the SE specification. “The SE specification, with Electronic Climate Control, Leather trim and alloy wheels has always been by far the most popular variant, with customers recognising the outstanding value for money it represents”, stated Patricia Greene, Volvo Car Ireland’s Product & Marketing Manager.

The SE Lux specification is now priced at the same price as the SE, but gains Active Bending Lights with Headlight Cleaning System, Floor Mats, Watchdials and Powerfolding mirrors with puddle lights in addition to the already comprehensive equipment level of the SE model.

“Priced at €30,095** the S40 D2 SE Lux represents even better value for money than before”, added Patricia Greene, “the improved performance of the 115 bhp 1.6D engine linked to the luxury of leather and driving enhancement of xenon lights that follow the road as you drive is a really strong package for both company and individual car buyers in Ireland”.

Increased Value for Money Options

In the Volvo S40 and V50 the two most commonly specified optional extras are Heated Front Seats and Rear Park Assist. To enhance the value of Model Year 11 even further, the price of these options has been reduced by 50%, to €250 each including all taxes.

New and Improved Engine Line Up

New Engine Nomenclature

Both the Volvo S40 and V50 will benefit from the new Volvo engine naming strategy. Technically, engines are improving and there is no longer the same need for as many cylinders or large displacements to achieve power and refinement. Instead, modern engines have a range of power levels depending on tuning level or degree of electrification. For the driving experience, the power output is far more important than the number of cylinders or the displacement.

From Model Year 11, Volvo engine badging will be prefixed with either D for Diesel or T for Petrol, followed by a number. The numbering format will follow the principle of Volvo’s car nomenclature, the higher the number the larger the bhp. Engines with a similar bhp output will have the same number, whether petrol or diesel.

New 2 litre 150hp D3 Diesel Engine

A new 2-litre turbodiesel engine will be available in the S40 and V50 models towards the end of this year. Badged as D3, it has 150 hp and 350 Nm of torque and replaces the previous 136hp engine. The new D3 meets the Euro 5 emission standards.

The new two-litre turbodiesel can be specified with a six-speed automatic transmission or six-speed manual gearbox.

D2 with 114 g CO2 emissions
The S40 and V50 are also available with the 1.6-litre diesel engine, under the new engine nomenclature called D2, which also complies with the Euro 5 standards. Fuel consumption in both models is 4.3l/100 km (EU Combined), which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 114 g/km and Band A in Ireland. The engine produces 115 hp and 270 Nm of torque, an improvement from 109hp and 240 Nm. It now comes with a six-speed manual gearbox.

All the new features in the 2011 model year range will be available as of the end of June 2010.
