BMW’s 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine is now available in the marque’s flagship model range. The new BMW 740d comes powered by a 306hp six-cylinder engine capable of propelling the vehicle from zero to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds before going on to an electronically-limited 250 km/h top speed. Such performance also appeals to the financially minded courtesy of a combined consumption figure of 6.9 l/100km and CO2 emissions of just 181g/km.
The BMW 740d is available in standard-wheelbase only with specification highlights including glass sunroof, lane departure warning system, speed limit display and lumbar support for driver and front passenger. The BMW 740d is on sale now priced from €122,280
Price reduction for 730d
Thanks to technical improvements in the fuelling system developed for the 740d, the 730d and 730Ld also benefit from lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from September production. These figures are achieved with no drop in power output or performance, further enhancing the class-leading environmental position the BMW 7 Series holds.
The BMW 730d now returns 6.8 l/100km on the combined cycle compared to 7.2 l/100km while the BMW 730Ld records 6.0l/100km against 7.3 l/100km. CO2 emissions also improve with the 730d dropping from 192g/km to 178g/km and the 730Ld now recording 180g/km opposed to 194g/km. This reduction in CO2 means the 730d drops a VRT band, with a corresponding fall in RRP of €5,660. The new prices for the 730d SE and the 730Ld SE are €108,580 and €112,830, falling from €114,240 and €118,710.
