21 year old Robert Barrable from Swords has been selected Dunlop Young Racing Driver of the Month for August.

The young Dubliner’s performances during the month included victories in two very different types of car – he won one of the Fiat Abarth races at the 80th Anniversary meeting at Phoenix Park, and three weeks later, returned to Formula Ford where he was a heat winner at the Martin Donnelly Trophy event at Kirkistown. Robert’s racing appearances this year have been fewer than in previous years as he is fitting them around his successful rally outings in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy

Robert began his Motorsport career in Karting at the age of 13.  Since then, he progressed through the karting ranks, before switching to Formula Ford 1600 in 2007. He won the Irish Formula Ford Championship in 2008, and ended the season on a high note by taking the Leinster Trophy race at Mondello Park.

With backing from sponsors ServiceWhileUFly.com and Michael Barrable Motors, he intends tackling the two major end of season FF1600 races in the UK, the Walter Hayes Trophy and the Formula Ford Festival, and plans to enter selected UK Championship rounds in 2010.

Robert is the fifth Dunlop Driver of the Month for 2009, and is now a contender for the prestigious €50,000 Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award. This award is presented annually and is sponsored by Dunlop, the Irish Sports Council and Motorsport Ireland.
