Fleet took a few spins around the circuit in Japanese spec vehicles
“No other place will get you to know cars as deeply as Grandrive” – that’s NISSAN Motor Company speak on its 3.8 kilometre test track located in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa. “In the real world, a car or van must cover every type of road from urban, suburban to motorway taking in every kind of surface. Grandrive reproduces all these roads on a single circuit based on not only Japanese roads but also roads abroad, it is an environment designed to test vehicles in a full scale, allowing what our new and evolving technologies can bring to your regular drive,” explained Mr. Atsushi Ohmura, Chief Vehicle Engineer, LCV Business Unit.
In its 40 years plus lifetime, the Oppama Testing Centre has carried out pre and post product testing on the Datsun Bluebird (1960-61), the Datsun Pickup (1972), Prairie (1988 and 1979) to name a few.
During our time there a number of Japanese specification commercials were driven around the track. See Table.
