…………………………..and urges Motorists and Pedestrians to stay safe
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. 2010 has got off to a very cold start with several areas experiencing icy conditions and snowfall, making drving conditions perilous and conditions underfoot dangerous for pedestrians. For this reason, I urge all Motorists and Pedestrians to stay safe and not to make any unnecessary journeys. This is also by tradition a very lonely time for those living alone, for the elderly and for the vulnerable in our communities, and the current weather conditions I’m sure are worsening that feeling of isolation and vulnerability for many. I am therefore appealing to all Dubliners to look in on those vulnerable neighbours who may need small things like groceries from the local shop, or simply just a friendly reassuring face to talk to during this difficult time. What better way to begin the New Year”, says the Lord Mayor.
“I wish to commend the efforts of Road Maintenance Crews of Dublin City Council, who are working tirelessly all over the City during this period of inclement weather, from 3.30am each morning, to ensure that our roads remain passable and safe for Motorists. This high level of public service will continue, and together with responsible and safe drving by Motorists, we will ensure that the new decade will have been begun safely for everyone”, the Lord Mayor concluded.
