AA PLEASED COMMON SENSE PREVAILS – M9 MOTORWAY OPENS

The AA is very pleased that the M9 motorway opened went ahead on Monday as officially planned. This new 28 km stretch of motorway will bring Waterford closer to Dublin and will be a major addition to the country’s growing motorway network.

“We were very concerned that the opening was being deferred for no good reason.” Says Director of Policy Conor Faughnan. “We are very pleased that common sense has prevailed and Minister Dempsey made the right decision. No harm done.”

“Within the next few years a lot more projects will be completed.” Says Faughnan. “It will be motorway all the way to Waterford by the end of next year. The route to Cork is also nearing completion. This is tremendous progress and those motorways will pay back the investment handsomely.”

Notes

N9 route Dublin to Waterford:

The Carlow bypass (20km’s) is already open

The stretch from Carlow to Kilcullen (28km’s) is what is under discussion. Original opening date Monday 21st Dec, new date not confirmed.

The stretch from Knoctopher to Waterford (24km’s) is due to open in February 2010

The final stretch from Carlow to Knocktopher and the completion of the entire M9/M10 is due for Autumn 2010. (this is what Sonia was referring to when she said November 2010.)
