Since the launch of the Mazda6 in the Irish market in January 2008, the Mazda6 has established itself as a credible and alternate choice for customers who want a large family car with more style and driver’s appeal against what more mainstream rivals can offer.

“The striking looks and dynamic handling coupled with Mazda’s famed reputation for reliability and build quality have placed Mazda6 as one of the top sellers in the segment”, explains David McGonigle, Managing Director, Mazda Motor Ireland. “The new design offers an even more sophisticated appearance.”

“We feel the improvements made to the new Mazda6 including the enhanced diesel engine with lower C02 emissions, improved fuel economy, superior performance and enhanced comfort and ride quality lift this car to best in class.”

Exterior and Interior Design for more Refinement

Customers continue to have a choice of three body styles, 4-door saloon, 5-door hatchback and estate. The Mazda6 has the new, sportier family face. Front and rear headlamps with new fog lamps bezels now portray a more flowing design. Amongst the 8 exterior body colours, there is a choice of two new colours: Clear Water Blue and Graphite Mica.

Inside, Mazda has sought to give a more premium look and feel to the cabin. New chrome detailing with piano black panelling add to the sense of refinement. Extensive sounds absorbing material, optimized A-pillars and extremely tight door fitting panels ensure low wind noise. Noise from the updated 2.2 diesel engine during cold start has been reduced.

Retuned engines deliver more performance with lower C02

The MZR-CD 2.2 turbo diesel engine has new, smaller turbo chargers that reduce turbine inertia to enhance response and optimise torque at low to middle engine speeds. Irish customers have a choice of two power outputs: 129ps and 180ps; both are Euro V compliant.

The 129ps diesel engine is available in three specification options: Executive, Executive SE and Sport. Improvements to the engine offer a superb balance between performance and economy. Power has been increased to 129ps (+3%), while the increased torque of 340Nm (+10%) ensures effortless long distance performance with safer overtaking .Whilst using only 5.2L/100kms (54MPG), fuel economy has improved by 7% and CO2 emissions have been reduced to 138g/km, dropping the Mazda6 into Tax Band B: €156.

“We expect the2.2 diesel Mazda6 Executive SE to really appeal to Irish Customers”, continues David. “From only €27,485*, standard specification includes, 16” alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, cruise control and a 6-speaker premium audio system.”

Mazda also expect to sell more Mazda6 Sport models than previously, for only €1500 above the price of the Executive SE model, customers will enjoy many exciting additional features – 18” alloys, Hill Hold Assist, Lane Change Assist, front & rear parking sensors, rain sensing wipers, folding heated mirrors and sports appearance pack.

The range topping 180ps engine found in the Z-Sport model produces 400Nm of torque while using 5% less fuel: 5.4L/100km (52 MPG). Sitting in Road Tax Band C, the Z-sport offers performance combined with an impressive level of standard specification including 18” Alloys, leather trim, Bose® premium audio system, Rear vehicle monitoring system and Hill Hold Assist.

Chassis and Suspension

New suspension components for the new Mazda6 are introduced to provide better overall handling stability, greater steering response and less vibration. The multi-link rear suspension has more rigid hub mountings with realigned cross member bushes for better overall handling stability.

Optimized dampers characteristics have been introduced to front and rear suspension to better adjust to different road surface conditions, while bump stoppers and trailing bushes offer more ride comfort.

Front stabilizer bushings offer more feedback through the steering wheel during corner turn-in, while delivering better straight-line stability.

Safety

The Mazda6 has the maximum Euro NCAP rating of 5-stars which the new Mazda6 has inherited. New safety features include Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) which warns cars behind of sudden braking manoeuvres by automatically flashing the hazard lights rapidly.

Standard safety equipment on all models include: Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control, ABS, EBD, Emergency Stop Signal with front, side and curtain airbags.
