Please find attached a statement updating you on the accelerator pedal
issue across Europe. We will endeavour to keep you fully informed of all
developments and information as we receive if from Toyota Europe.
I am writing to you with an interim update on the recall of Toyota Vehicles in Ireland following on the concerns surrounding the operation of certain accelerator pedal mechanisms.
Firstly, let me say that we are working tirelessly with Toyota Europe to identify precisely the vehicles which will be affected by this recall and expect to have a definitive list by the middle of next week. The identification process is complicated by the fact that it is Toyota policy to have two or more outside contractors supplying production lines at any particular time. In this instance, as the issue regarding brake pedals is confined to one supplier, Toyota Europe is in the process of confirming the precise production batches using the accelerator pedal component from the affected supplier.
Once we have precise and accurate information on the affected vehicles we will provide you with this information and will begin to make contact with the relevant Toyota owners so that we can commence what ever remedial work will be required.
In terms of the particular problem we have been informed by Toyota Europe that there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position. This issue is caused because the accelerator pedal mechanisms concerned may become worn.
In the case of occurrence the driver may notice that the accelerator pedal is progressively harder to depress or is slower to return. A rough or chattered feeling may also be experienced when depressing / releasing the accelerator pedal.
Toyota is making every effort to address this situation for our customers as quickly as possible. Whilst this condition is rare Toyota are advising customers who have concerns to contact their Toyota Dealer or Toyota Ireland Customer Relations on 01 – 4190222. This number will remain open from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday
