Status signs Gary Anderson for GP3 Series assault

Status   Grand   Prix   has   finalised   an   agreement  with renowned  Formula  One  designer  and  technical  director  Gary  Anderson  to  continue  as  the team’s Technical Consultant as it enters the newly launched GP3 Series.

Status  Grand  Prix,  which  won  the  A1GP  World  Cup  of  Motorsport  this  year  running  the A1  Team  Ireland  entry,  is  one  of  10  elite  race  teams  to  be  selected  to  compete  in  the pan-European championship established to identify Formula One™ stars of the future.Anderson,  whose  association  with  Status  GP  goes  back  three  years,  said:  “GP3  is  a  new challenge  for  everyone,  with  a  new  car  and  new  tyres.  A  team  of  Status  GP’s  calibre,  with  its A1GP success, will be very competitive. I look forward to an interesting season.”

Working with Anderson at the helm of Status Grand Prix’s race team will be the highly regarded Simon  Cayzer,  who  has  Formula  One™  experience  with  Jordan  Grand  Prix  and  managed  the Piquet Sports team in the GP2 Series before joining Status GP in 2007. He scored A1GP race wins  as  team  manager  of  the  Status-run  A1  Team  Canada  entry  in  2007-08,  and  as  race engineer at A1 Team Netherlands in 2008-09.

Status  shareholders  Mark  Gallagher,  David  Kennedy  and  John  Hynes  are  delighted  to  be challenging  for  another  international  championship  title,  and  are  joined  in  this  by  the  team’s majority shareholder, Canadian Teddy Yip. “We  are  thrilled  to  be  taking  part  in  this  fantastic  new  series,”  said  Yip.  “GP3  will  be  fiercely competitive  and  is  designed  to  give  young  drivers  a  great  chance  to  progress  their  careers towards F1. We believe Status GP can provide the ideal environment for them to do just that.”The team-ownership exploits of Yip, 27, are following in the footsteps of his father, Teddy Yip Sr, whose Theodore Racing team competed in Formula One from 1977 to 1983.

The GP3 Series will complement the established GP2 Series, already proven as they key feeder series  to  Formula  One™,  and  completes  the  ladder  for  young  drivers  to  climb  to  the  sport’s pinnacle at Grand Prix events in front of the F1 teams. Status GP continues to assess leading junior single-seater drivers to spearhead its championship assault, and announcements on its line-up and other exciting developments for the team will be released in the coming weeks.
